Turmeric can be grown in pots or directly in the ground. Plant rhizomes in deep, well-drained soil and water them twice a week. Add compost once or twice a year to enrich the soil. Leaves naturally dry and fall off in winter, signalling harvest time. Rhizomes are best harvested when foliage has thoroughly dried at the end of the cold season.
