Rough lemon is a naturalised lemon variety in Zambia. It is everbearing and reliable. Probably one of the juiciest varieties, it is also acidic, making it ideal for copious amounts of lemonade—a low-maintenance tree whose fruits are used in fruit cocktails, marmalade, desserts and juices. The rind can be candied. Make lovely lemon ice cubes in the summer months.

Like many citrus trees, the rough lemon is drought and heat-tolerant. Add compost three times a year or four times if the plant bears fruit continuously or is potted. Water once or twice weekly. Preventive measures for all citrus trees should include control of leaf miner, citrus scale, Aphids, fungus and caterpillars. Cuttings are suitable for rooting or grafting.
NB: Seedless citrus varieties may develop seeds when cross-pollinated with other varieties.
