Himalayan Mulberry: Lessons from 2023

The Himalayan mulberry trees performed exceptionally well in our garden in 2023. They  surpassed even the local mulberry varieties. They grew at an impressive rate despite the hot and dry summer. While the straight branches made for excellent supports. These trees held onto their fruits longer than other varieties. The crop had a sweeter flavor despite the harsh conditions. The fruits have the  ability to be eaten both red and black, the harvest period has increased. The trees have continued to flower and have started ripening already this month. We are pleased to see that the trees have been growing even faster since the arrival of the first rains of the season.

The Usefulness of Himalayan Mulberry

Consider planting fast-growing Himalayan mulberries to create live fences in areas with livestock. They recover quickly when animals feed on the large leaves. The trees offer welcome shade during hot summers. These low-maintenance plants can serve as a source of sticks to support crops like tomatoes. Plus, you can enjoy large, sweet mulberries with a hint of raspberry that can be dried for off-season. Himalayan mulberry is a drought-tolerant investment that can benefit gardens of all sizes.
