If the tubers are fresh when received and oozing at the separation site, consider leaving them in a cool, dark place to sprout before planting, like potatoes or ginger. Once established, water once weekly and add compost or manure thrice yearly. The vines need strong support, such as a wire fence. Yams are used interchangeably with sweet potatoes in many dishes.

The listing is for a packet of 5 purple yam seeds (may include tubers and/ or aerial seeds). We grow giant purple yams in 50L polybags to effectively control their growing conditions. Our initial attempt to grow them in large plastic pots caused the pots to crack because of the significant size of the tubers. Giant yams have no pest pressure and handle root-knot nematodes, waterlogging, and drought better than sweet potatoes and Irish potatoes.
