Preventing Mulberry Fruit Drop During Dry Summers

Mulberries awaken from dormancy as the bare branches sprout fresh leaves, blossoms, and fruits. Mulberry trees contribute both beauty and utility to the garden. Potted plants may experience leaf wilting. Cuttings collected during this phase may not be successfully rooted as resources are concentrated in the new shoots. Consider collecting cuttings for rooting after fruit harvests.

The Himalayan mulberry demonstrates the highest level of resilience; however, it may experience fruit drop following an extended period of drought. In contrast, the Pakistan and Tehama mulberry varieties are more vulnerable to fruit drop. There are high expectations for a bountiful mulberry harvest this year, and the following recommendations will assist in achieving a successful yield.

  1. The soil consistency is crucial in preventing leaves from wilting and fruits from dropping during the dry summer. This season, implementing soil composting, mulching, and evening plant watering may effectively address water-related issues.
  2. The larger the container, the greater the amount of water retained and the extended duration of soil moisture.
  3. Cultivating potted mulberry plants away from direct midday sunlight can also be advantageous.
