Harvesting, Storing and Replanting Giant Purple

Falling night temperatures have caused the giant purple yam vines and leaves to dry,. However, the warmer day temperatures have sustained the greenery of some vines. Our careful harvesting of the yams without disturbing the stalks allows us to replant them immediately. Planting the yam roots in larger polybags ensures a bountiful future crop.

The harvested purple yams have been carefully stored for cooking, while other seeds are primed for planting in the spring. By utilizing polybags, we have streamlined the harvesting process and enabled the yams to thrive even as pieces are collected. We share pictures and videos of our giant yam harvesting and storage process.
