Syzygium oleosum (Lilli pilly) is an ornamental and functional evergreen fruit tree. The flowers and fruits are produced at least twice a year, attracting birds and pollinators into the garden. The fruits in Zambia are dark pinkish-purple and only turn bluish when very ripe, especially when night temperatures are lower. The fruits are eaten fresh but are most commonly used to make colourful jams, wines, sweets and jellies. It is relatively low maintenance. The regular tree into a moderately large tree but may be potted to restrict its size. Add compost twice yearly and water twice weekly until the plants are established.
