Barbados cherry (Malpighia emarginata) is found in tropical and subtropical climates. The air-layered plants are already fruit-bearing. The mature plants produce at least three fruit crops a year. The fruits are tart when raw, becoming sweetly acidic when red and ripe. It is relatively low maintenance. The regular tree is a large tree but may be potted to restrict its size. The dwarf shrub produced tasty miniature-sized fruits and ornamental purple flowers. It has a spreading habit.
