🎯 Purpose
Pheromone water traps help prevent and monitor moth infestations by attracting pests with specific lures. Moths land on the water-filled basin and drown, reducing their population and reproductive cycle.
🐛 Target Pests
- Tuta absoluta – affects tomatoes and other Solanum plants (e.g., pepino); damages leaves and fruits
- Diamondback moth – affects Brassica crops (e.g., cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower); causes holes in leaves, leaving veins intact
🌱 Susceptible Crops
- Brassicas: cabbage, broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower, horseradish, kohlrabi, turnips, rutabaga. Etc.
- Solanums: tomatoes, pepino
⚙️ Trap Components
📍 Placement Guidelines
- Use 4–6 traps per acre for general monitoring
- Increase to 6–10 traps per acre if more than five moths are caught per trap
- If moth numbers continue rising, consider spraying crops
🧼 Maintenance Tips
- Refill the basin after a few days if hot or windy weather causes the water to evaporate.
- Replace lures every 45 days (6 weeks) (follow product instructions)
- Remove and discard infested leaves or fruits before trap setup, especially for perennial crops
- Monitor trap catches to guide pest control decisions
