Growing edible and ornamental plants can be a challenging but rewarding adventure! Although weather and pests may pose some difficulties, there is much potential for growth and improvement. With every obstacle we encounter, we can learn and develop new skills, work with the natural environment, and continue to strive towards success. Focusing on perennial plants can also ensure a more resilient and bountiful harvest. So let’s keep pushing ourselves to be better gardeners and keep our eyes on the prize of beautiful, flourishing plants!
Despite the challenges, we also had some successes, as some of our plants showed their full potential to overcome less-than-ideal growing conditions by showing extraordinary growth and productivity. Pomegranates, mangoes and lychees were seasonal, while grapes, figs, bananas, apples, citrus fruits, assorted vegetables and spices have been constantly available this year. It is a lesson we can emulate and go into the world to thrive regardless of our conditions.
