They may be trimmed to maintain productivity and easier handling, but a support or trellis is necessary. They may handle droughts and dry heat better when well-established. Plant in well-drained soils, in semi-shade or full sun. Add acidic compost thrice yearly or four times if potted. Water once or twice weekly.
