Pineapple Verbena: Fragrant Potted Shrub with Orange Berries

Plant Profile

Pineapple verbena, also known as Nashia inaguensis or Bahamas berry, is a striking potted plant. Moreover, it thrives beautifully in containers and suits low-maintenance bonsai displays. Therefore, we grow it in larger pots as a shrub. This style, in turn, reveals its tiny, tough, scented leaves. Additionally, it shows off hardy brown stems and branches. Although the blossoms are miniature, they still attract many bees. When crushed, the leaves release a fruity, pine-like aroma. Furthermore, the leaves can be harvested year-round for herbal tea. As a result, the plant is also called Moujean tea. After blooming in pre-winter, the shrub is now full of beautiful orange berries.

Propagation and Garden Gallery

We propagate these plants from cuttings. However, we can also grow more plants by separating rooted shoots that grow from buried roots. Additionally, we share this gallery of potted Pineapple verbena from our subtropical garden. Finally, these photos show the plant during pre-winter and winter.
