Sacha Inchi After Unexpected Late Rain
It has been a couple of months since the last significant rainfall in our garden. Many plants received a revitalization, and new growth emerged. Nevertheless, concern persisted regarding the development of mold in dry nuts and grains. The Inchi nuts were either dry or on the verge of drying when the last rain arrived.
Sacha Inchi after Fall in Temperatures
Following the rainfall, the vines bloomed abundantly. However, with the drop in temperature, especially during the night hours, we were concerned about the potential drop in flowers as tropical plants tend to be more prone to sensitivity to cooler temperatures than drought.
Absorbing The Rainwater for Growth
Thankfully, the Inchi nuts demonstrated greater resilience, opting to be influenced by favourable weather patterns. The vines persevere through less accommodating environments. While the outer shell of the nut absorbed rainwater, the inner enclosure remained solid and impervious.
The inner shell can only spontaneously open once the nuts are completely dry. The nuts have successfully dried. Consequently, they were recently harvested without mold or loss of flavour. Despite the unexpected late rains, the Sacha Inca vines thrived and grew more this year than in the previous twelve months of 2023.
