Edible plants that thrive in the Subtropics

Fig Growing in the Subtropics

We have assorted fig varieties tolerate the long dry spells of the subtropics. We mainly grown them in large pots. Root restriction does not favour poor soils and the long dry season. Additionally, planting more than five fig varieties ensures continued productivity throughout the year.

Summer figs and grapes make the festive season more special. Figs and many berries are spared from fruit fly infestations.

Fruits, herbs and vegetables for all seasons

A small garden in the subtropics can be a wealth of treasure. Flu season is kept at bay with an afternoon harvest of figs, lemons, apples, grapes, oranges, tropical gooseberries, pepino and elderberry. A bucket of fruit will help keep the doctor away.

Berries that thrive in the Subtropics

Appropriate Raspberries, Blackberries and Strawberry varieties thrive in our climate. They provide antioxidants, vitamins and food diversity during winter. The mild winters in the subtropics are conducive to many exotic fruit plants.
